Chantel Ray enters her third season as an assistant coach with the Saluki track and field program.
Ray will assist Richard Jones with coaching Southern’s sprinters and hurdlers and will also serve as SIU’s director of operations.
As the director of operations, Ray will be involved in all phases of the day-to-day operations of the track and field office. Her responsibilities include making travel arrangements, scheduling, meet management, serving as a liaison with academics and assisting with alumni and community service events.
Ray earned her bachelor’s degree in sport industry from Ohio State University in 2018 and was a four-year letterwinner for the Buckeyes. As a senior, the Hampton, Va. native qualified for the outdoor national meet in the 100m hurdles. Earlier that year, she became the first female Buckeye in six years to win the 60m hurdles at the 2018 Big Ten Indoor Championships.
