David Rule has served as Assistant AD for Sports Medicine at Southern Illinois since May 2018. He spent the previous two years as an assistant athletic trainer for the Nebraska football program.

At SIU, Rule oversees sports medicine for Southern's 15 varsity athletic programs.

An Indiana native, Rule interned for three NFL teams: the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers. He served as head football athletic trainer at South Dakota State from 2011-16 before moving on to work with the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team from 2016-18.

Rule obtained his athletic training certification in 2008 and also holds CPR/AED and Graston M1 technique certifications. He has served as a guest lecturer on head and spine injuries.

He earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training from Purdue in December 2007 and earned his master's degree in athletic training from West Virginia in August 2010.
