Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Carbondale men's tennis team will play in the prestigious Louisville Invitational from October 5-7 in Louisville, Kentucky.
SIU won three titles at the Marquette Invitational last weekend and will have to step up in competition this weekend at teh Louisville Invitational to be successful.
"I think we're proving that we're a good team and at least in the middle of the MVC pack. We are looking to be better than that, we want to be really good. We have the opportunity to play in a really tough tournament which will be a good long range measuring stick for the guys," said Missy Jeffrey, Saluki head coach.
"I put four of our guys in the top flight which was the max and asked if anyone wanted to play in the #2 flight and they said no. These guys want to play nationally ranked teams and players. They want to see how they compare because they want to get there someday."
The 19-team field will include Vanderbilt, Indiana, Kentucky, Wright State, St. Louis, Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Dayton, Austin Peay State, IUPUI, Toledo, Tennessee-Martin, IUPU-Fort Wayne, Murray State, Indianapolis, Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois and Louisville.
The Louisville Invitational will be at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center at the University of Louisville.
