Football Lands Three Players on Gateway All-Newcomer Team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Three players from the Southern Illinois football team were named to the Gateway Conference All-Newcomer Team, the league announced Thursday.
Wide receiver Justin George and safeties Alexis Moreland and Jon Pendergrass represented the Salukis on the 22-man squad.
George, a true freshman from Stoneboro, Pa., led the team in receptions (30) and receiving yards (328). He averaged 10.9 yards per catch and caught one touchdown.
Moreland, a true freshman from Sarasota, Fla., started eight games at safety and finished second on the team in tackles with 76. He also broke up three passes, intercepted a pass and caused one fumble.
Pendergrass, a senior transfer from Northern Illinois, started nine games at safety and was sixth on the team in tackles with 43. He missed two games due to injury. Pendergrass had one sack, two tackles for loss, four pass breakups and a blocked punt.
