Winless Indiana State (0-9) scored a go-ahead touchdown with 9:32 remaining in the game and managed to hang on to hand Southern Illinois University a 23-22 defeat in Gateway Conference action Saturday at McAndrew Stadium.
The Salukis, who were looking for their third win of the season to go with six setbacks, had taken their first lead of the game, 22-17, late in the third quarter before surrendering the fourth-quarter touchdown.
Indiana State quarterback Jamie Dishroom scored the winning touchdown on a two-yard run to cap the Sycamores seven-play, 68-yard drive.
The winning drive accounted for one-third of Indiana State's offenxive efforts for the afternoon as the Sycamores had just 189 yards compared to SIU's 289.
Indiana State closes out its season next week at Western Kentucky while the Salukis call on Youngstown State.
