Schooley Named MVC Player of the Week

Roman Schooley's performance last weekend helped Southern Illinois University Carbondale (10-14, 4-4 MVC) win three of four games in a Missouri Valley Conference series against the University of Northern Iowa at Abe Martin Field last weekend.
On Monday, March 26, the Saluki senior was awarded for his effort with a Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week award for the week of March 19-25.
Schooley, a designated hitter from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, hit a team high .588 (10-for-17) in five games last week against St. Louis University (1) and Northern Iowa (4).
Schooley reached base 10 straight times in games two, three and four of the Northern Iowa series. During that string, he had eight hits and two walks, including three home runs, a double, five runs, and nine-RBIs. He was 7-for-7 with two home runs and two walks in the doubleheader on Saturday, March 24. He caught fire in the four game series against Northern Iowa, going 10-for-14 with three home runs, nine-RBIs, five runs scored, a double and three walks to improve his batting average 105 points from .208 to .313, which is second on the team. The Salukis won the final three games of that series behind his hot bat.
Overall, the Bloomfield, Iowa native had 17 at bats, scored five runs, had ten hits, a double, three home runs, nine RBIs, a 1.176 slugging percentage, five walks (one intentional), and two strikeouts (vs St. Louis) during the week. Schooley is the Salukis leading returning hitter from last season, when he hit .343.
