Track Teams Finish Strong at All Sport Relays

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - After starting the meet with a third place finish in the hammer throw, Jamie Waters of the Southern Illinois University Carbondale women's track and field team made the most of her teammate Caryn Poliquin being away in Texas to finish in the top five in the shot put, discus and javelin at the 20th Annual All-Sport Relays at the Abe Stuber Track and Field Complex on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University Saturday afternoon.
The sophomore from Jerseyville, Ill., threw the shot 41-3 to take third place in her first event of the the second day. She then tossed the discus 130-4 1/4 to wind up fifth and finished her outing with fourth in the javelin with a heave of 113-6.
At the Texas Relays Saturday, the three male Saluki participants all finished in the top ten in the their events. Former Carterville Lion Brock Lovelace was in the thick of things in the javelin throw coming in seventh overall with a throw of 195-02. Former Carbondale Terrier Joe Hill finished tied for ninth in the high jump clearing 6-feet, 9-inches while Joe Zeibert wound up tenth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:02.47. For the women, the distance medley relay team of Becky Cox, Marissa Jelks, Julia Roundtree and Emily Herrell finished 18th (12:36.37).
Jodi Huddlestun finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run (11:00.46), Candice George finished sixth in the long jump (17-10), Krista Best also finished sixth in the pole vault (8-0) and Laura Grafton tossed the javelin 98-3 to also finish sixth to conclude the women Salukis at the All-Sport Relays.
On the men's side, Dan Harrell cleared 15-6 to come in second in the pole vault while Ian Lowthian was just .37 seconds off the pace to also take a second in the 400-meters with a time of 48.00.
Travis Pressler had a good meet coming in third in the 3,000-meters (9:05.11) and fifth in the 1,500-meters (4:08.4). Andrew Warnsing came in fourth in the 800-meters (1:58.42), Chris Owen fifth in the 5,000-meters (15:56.3) while Jared Rybacki (400m) and Ross Moore (3,000m) finished eight, respectively, to conclude the men?s participants.
