CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois' football game at Ball State, which was supposed to be played on Sept. 15 but was cancelled due to the national tragedy, will not be rescheduled, SIU athletic director Paul Kowalczyk said Monday.
"There was a domino effect of games being rescheduled that made it impossible for us to play Ball State later this season," Kowalczyk said. "To their credit, Ball State is working with us to find another opponent to replace them on the schedule."
The "domino effect" began when Michigan moved its Sept. 15 game with Western Michigan to Sept. 22. That caused Ball State and Western, who were supposed to play each other on the 22nd, to move their game to Nov. 24.
SIU is looking for an opponent to play on Nov. 24, Kowalczyk said, but only if the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs, which are scheduled to start that week, are pushed back.
