Carbondale, Ill. - The men's tennis team will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday to compete in the 2002 ITA Mid-American Regionals. The five day tournament will include such teams as Colorado, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska.
After making its way to the quarterfinals in five separate categories (three singles, two doubles) at the Louisville Invitational recently, the men's tennis team hopes to continue its winning ways this weekend.
"Louisville allowed some of our players to find their game and focus," said head coach Missy Jeffrey. "If the fall season ended right now, I would feel pretty good about everybody. This regional tournament is a bonus for us. We can see how and where we can improve before the spring season starts. This will be a great opportunity to play against some nationally ranked schools and players."
Other participants in the ITA Mid-American Regional tournament are Bradley, Creighton, Drake, Evansville, Illinois State, Indiana State, UMKC, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, St. Louis, Southwest Missouri, Tulsa and Wichita State.
The ITA regional tournament will be the final outing of the 2002 fall season for the men's tennis team. They will begin the spring season in January with the MVC Individual Championships.
