Women's Cross Country Places Second At Evansville Invitational

Katie Meehan had a career-best 5K time to lead the Southern Illinois University women's cross country team, and Doron Giat had a season-best 8K time to lead the men's team at separate meets Saturday.
Meehan clocked in at 17:55.62 to place first out of 32 runners at the Evansville Invitational, vaulting her into the top spot on the Missouri Valley Conference best list. The Salukis tied for second-place with the host Aces in the three-team race, while Louisville was first.
Giat clocked in at 25:14 for a strong 9th-place finish in the open division of the highly competitive Indiana State Pre-Nationals. There were 254 runners competing in the race and SIU finished 20th out of 24 teams in the division.
The Saluki women also had season-bests from the rest of their top-five, as seniors Jodi Huddlestun (7th, 18:41.43) and Erin Simone (9th, 18:53.32) placed in the top-10, and Ty-Nica Davis (12th, 19:04.2) and Lindsey Campos (19th, 19:45.62) had strong performances.
Eli Baker (90th, 26:19), Tony LaChiana (196th, 27:28), Scott Mahon (207th, 27:35) and Ryan Hauser (210th, 27:39) rounded out the Saluki men's top-five.
Both teams will be training the next two weeks in preparation for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships on Nov. 2 at Indiana State.
