CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois cross country returns to action Friday, Oct. 16, at Indiana State University's Under Armour Pre-National XC Classic in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The meet will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, with Southern Illinois sending nine women and one men's runner into competition.
The Saluki women will compete in the women's 6K White Race at 11:20 a.m. ET, with all nine SIU runners scheduled to race. Southern Illinois' women's lineup includes:
- Hannah Meiser
- Jaylee Duncan
- Savanna Franzen
- Carryn Sattler
- Allyson Niedfeldt
- Layla Janisch
- Sophie Krupa
- Eislee Moore
- Ellary Blakey
The meet gives the Saluki women another opportunity to continue building through the 6K distance after competing at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invite in Chicago.
Hannah Meiser led Southern Illinois in Chicago, while Savanna Franzen, Jaylee Duncan and Sophie Krupa drew praise from head coach Angelina Ramos for the way they handled the longer race distance.
Friday's race will give the group another chance to gain experience together and continue progressing as the season moves closer to championship competition.
On the men's side, Maxx Haas will represent Southern Illinois in the men's 8K White Race at 12 p.m. ET.
Haas did not compete in the Salukis' previous men's meet after dealing with an injury. Head coach Angelina Ramos decided to give him the opportunity to return to competition this weekend in Terre Haute.
Friday's race will give Haas a chance to get back into race action and continue building toward the later portion of the season.
Weather could also play a factor throughout the weekend, with the team itinerary noting expected rain and possible lightning in Terre Haute.
