CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - Quarterback Joel Sambursky threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Robinson as time expired to give Southern Illinois a 54-52 win over Western Illinois on Saturday.
Southern Illinois (3-3) running back Mo Abdulqaadir ran for four touchdowns and 261 yards on 31 carries a week after rushing for a school-record 312 yards.
The Salukis led by 17 late in the game when Western Illinois (4-1) scored three straight touchdowns. Leathernecks quarterback Russ Michna threw two touchdown passes to R.J. Luke and a third to Stacey Coleman with 1:11 remaining to give them a 4-point lead.
The Salukis then drove 80 yards for the winning score behind the passing of Sambursky, who was 11-of-21 for 185 yards.
Michna threw five touchdowns passes and was 22-of-34 for 329 yards. Western Illinois gained more yards than the Salukis, 538-500, but fumbled six times, losing four.
Attley Lawson had 114 yards on 26 carries for the Leathernecks. Coleman had 10 catches and 116 yards and Luke had 182 yards receiving on nine receptions and three touchdowns.
