Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University head coach Lori Opp announced today that Staci Starkweather has been named assistant coach of the Saluki women's basketball program.
A native of Pinckneyville, Ill., and graduate of SIU (1998), Starkweather enters her first collegiate coaching job with the Dawgs this season.
Starkweather has 10 years of coaching experience, including two (1990-91, 1991-92) overseas in Salzburg, Austria. While in Salzburg, she also played one year for the Austrian travel team. Most recently, however, she assisted head coach Pat Summitt at the University of Tennessee women's basketball camp this past summer, and served as camp administrator for the women's basketball coach at the University of Illinois (2000-01). In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to be here and be a part of the SIU program," said Starkweather. "I look forward to the challenges that lie before me in this new position."
