NORMAL, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's cross country team placed 18th Saturday at the Midwest Cross Country Regional, led by senior Katie Meehan's 26th-place time of 21:38 in a 6K race.
Meehan wrapped up her college career with her best-ever regional finish, while the Saluki women bettered their 19th-place finish of a year ago.
Noa Beitler (75th, 22:33), Jodi Huddlestun (94th, 22:55), Lindsey Campos (144th, 23:56) and Erin Simone (153rd, 24:16) rounded out SIU's top-five. The women's field included 23 teams and 168 runners. Amy Mortimer of Kansas State won the individual title, while the University of Missouri took the team title.
Doron Giat placed 64th (31:36) to lead SIU's two men's runners in a 10K race. Eli Baker of Marion placed 107th by clocking in at 32:31.
The men's field included 163 runners and 24 teams. Andrew Carleson of Minnesota took the individual title, while Iowa took the team title.
The top-two teams in each race advance to the NCAA Championships, along with the top two individuals not on advancing teams.
