Boca Raton, Fla. - Katie Kloess pitched a two-hitter to lead Southern Illinois (6-2) to a 1-0 win over ACC foe Georgia Tech following a three-hour rain delay this afternoon at the Florida Atlantic Invitational.
Kloess, who improved to a perfect 3-0 this season, struck out two hits in 5.2 innings pitched.
SIU scored the game's only run in the top of the fourth inning when Katie Jordan led things off with a single. Jen Guenther then SAC-bunted to put Jordan in scoring position. Jordan would score on the next play off a double by Adie Viefhaus.
With runners on first and second in the fifth, Guenther allowed a ground ball to go through her legs which would have scored the tying run, but the Yellow Jackets were caught with an illegal substitution that allowed the Salukis to hang on to the 1-0 win.
Freshman Amy Harre, who relieved Kloess to pitch the final 1.1 innings, struck out three batters en route to her fourth save of the season.
SIU will take on tournament host Florida Atlantic tonight at 6 p.m.
