Women's Basketball to Face Second-Place Drake

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois (6-19, 2-14) heads into its final two games of the 2001-02 season this week beginning tomorrow night when the Salukis play at second-place Drake (19-6, 13-3). Tip off is set for 7:05 p.m.
SIU saw its short-lived, two-game winning streak come to an end last week as the Salukis suffered a 70-48 loss to Bradley (2/23) at SIU Arena. Heading into this week's games, last-place SIU is led by the backcourt tandem of Molly McDowell (13.0 ppg) and Holly Teague (12.3 ppg.
Drake, on the other hand, has won its last seven games and stands at one game behind league leading Creighton with a 13-3 mark. The Bulldogs, who recently knocked off the first-place Bluejays at the buzzer (74-72) last Sunday, are led by Carla Bennett who averages 15.0 points per game. Bennett is joined by Jayme Anderson (12.8 ppg), Stephanie Schmitz (12.2 ppg) and Erin Richards (10.7 ppg) who make up four of Drake's starting five scoring double figures.
The Bulldogs hold a commanding 31-20 lead in the overall series against SIU. Since 1997, Drake has strung together a 12-game winning streak over the Salukis which includes a 71-63 win earlier this year in Carbondale.
