Softball Cancels Southern Classic

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois head softball coach Kerri Blaylock announced this morning that the Kay Brechtelsbauer Southern Classic scheduled for March 2-3, has been cancelled due to impending inclement weather.

SIU's annual tournament, which was called off because of "wintery" conditions currently predicted to sweep through Carbondale this weekend, will not be rescheduled.

This year would have marked the Salukis' 10th straight playing host to the two-day event where Loyola-Chicago, No. 16 Iowa, Eastern Illinois and Western Illinois were also scheduled to compete.

Weather pending, SIU will return to action as scheduled on Tuesday, March 5 when the Salukis play host to Southeast Missouri State in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
