Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University men's tennis (1-3) will start Missouri Valley Conference play against Evansville on the road in Evansville, Ind. on Friday at 3 p.m.
"A win against Evansville is very important. Evansville is similar to Tennessee-Martin and we came close to beating UTM (lost 4-3) after Tenn.-Martin beat Evansville. That loss was hard for us and the team is motivated to play harder against Evansville. The team doesn't want to lose that match," Missy Jeffrey, Saluki head coach.
"We've changed our doubles lineup and I feel good about the changes and feel those teams will compete and give us a chance to win every doubles match.
In addition to Evansville, the Salukis face Ball State (March 30 at 3 p.m.) on the road in Muncie, Ind. and then host Illinois-Chicago on Sunday at 11 a.m. at University Courts this weekend.
"This is a big weekend. Ball State is a national-caliber team so we'll see some tough competition. We need to come together as a team and win some matches, especially the close ones. Most of these guys are new to college tennis and this weekend will give us a chance to play lots of tennis and come together as a team," added Jeffrey.
