Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois head coach Kerri Blaylock announced today that Andrea Hylla has signed a national letter of intent to become a Saluki in the fall of 2002. Hylla is the fourth and final addition to the 2003 class.
Hylla (IF/OF) comes to SIU from Broken Arrow High School where she finished her prep career in the fall of 2001. A native of Broken Arrow, Okla., she helped lead her team to a state championship, while garnering all-conference, all-region and all-state honors. Statistically, Hylla boasted a .389 batting average to go along with a .982 fielding percentage under high school coach Jim Hillman.
"We are very excited to round out our recruiting class with Andrea," said Blaylock. "She is a big time hitter that can play multiple infield positions. She is also a player that knows how to win after garnering a state championship this past fall."
Hylla joins Katie Louis (SS/OF, O'Fallon, Ill.), Lauren Roney (C/OF, Belleville, Ill.) and Samantha Carter (IF, St. Louis, Mo.) who also committed to SIU back in November.
