Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University (18-14, 7-9 MVC) will look to snap a five game losing streak against Southeast Missouri State University (17-13, 7-2 OVC) on Wednesday in non-conference play at 3 p.m. at Abe Martin Field.
"We're tired of losing to SEMO. We have to stay away from the big innings against them to get a win," said Dan Callahan, Saluki head coach. "We need to play like we did on Sunday against SMS. We were good on defense, offense and pitching. We need a quality start from Bill Clayton (0-1, 5.63 era) to get a win and end this streak."
The Salukis have lost the last five meeting over the last three years by a 38-8 margin. SIU lost 8-2 earlier this season and is 3-8 record under Callahan against the Indians. SEMO beat the Salukis 11-5 in Carbondale and 19-1 in Cape Girardeau in 2001.
Southern Illinois will be back in MVC play this weekend at home against Evansville April 19-21.
