Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's scheduled game against the University of Illinois on Wednesday, May 1 has been cancelled due to expected rain in Champaign tonight. The game will not be rescheduled.
"We were looking forward to playing Illinois and seeing their staff. I coached for (Illinois coach) Itch Jones and coached one of their coaches (Danny Hartman). Their facility is nice and we were in a pretty good situation with our number one pitcher Jake Alley scheduled to pitch. The last two years they've had their top guy throw the midweek game against us and this was our first time we had our top guy ready to go. We'll just have to get after them next year," said Dan Callahan, Saluki head coach.
SIU will continue non-league play this weekend with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Tennessee-Martin at Abe Martin Field on Saturday, May 4.
