Incoming freshmen and transfers will take the field Saturday at 7 p.m. as the Southern Illinois University football team begins training camp, two-a-day practices.
Head coach Jerry Kill and his staff enter their second year with the program, which is coming off a 1-10 finish in 2001.
The newcomers to the program will have four days of practice before the veterans report to camp on Tuesday. The first full squad practice will be Wednesday, August 7 at 3:30 p.m. The first intrasquad scrimmage will be Saturday, Aug. 10 at 3:30 p.m.
"We think we had a good recruiting class, and we're looking forward to finding out which ones can play," Kill said.
Afternoon practices are open to the public and typically take place from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
