Men's Tennis Begins Spring Season

Carbondale, Ill. - The men's tennis squad will square off against their first competitors of the spring season this weekend (Jan. 25-27) at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships. The Salukis hope to begin the new season with some wins that will boost their confidence, but don't plan to take their opponents lightly.
"This tournament gives our new players a chance to see the tough competition," said head coach Missy Jeffrey. "With seven players, we have a good chance in the draw to see various players. I hope we get the opportunity to play some solid opponents that will test this team."
Last year's individual championships proved exciting for one Saluki tennis player. Sophomore Lukasz Soswa advanced to the No. 5 singles finals match as a freshman. This year's Saluki team hopes to make a larger impact.
Singles and doubles action will be played at the Drake Tennis Center courts in Des Moines beginning Saturday morning.
