ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois University quarterback Joel Sambursky was named the Gateway Conference's offensive 'Player of the Week,' the league announced Sunday. Sambursky led the Salukis to a dramatic, come-from-behind win over 7th-ranked Western Kentucky on Saturday.
In a game that was dominated by two of the league's best defenses, Sambursky was a difference-maker at the end, completing 15-of-22 passes for 228 yards and a TD. He also carried 10 times for 23 yards.
The sophomore from Liberty, Mo. rallied the Salukis from 11 points down by scoring two TDs in the final 3:44 of the game. On the game-winning touchdown drive, he ran a bootleg on 4th-and-2 and picked up the first down. He later completed a 28-yard TD strike to Brent Little with 55 seconds left for the winning score in a 28-24 game.
It was the second time this season Sambursky has won the award. He also won it for his performance at Indiana State on Oct. 4.
