CARBONDALE, Ill. - Three Salukis, one woman and two men, were named to the Missouri Valley Cross Country Scholar-Athlete teams, the league office announced Wednesday.
Senior Noa Beitler represented the women's team after a sixth-place finish and a career best time of 17:53 at the conference championship meet last weekend. An Industrial Design major, Beitler owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.889.
On the men's side, SIU was represented by senior Doron Giat and junior Eli Baker. The two helped lead the Salukis to a fourth-place finish at last week's conference championships.
Giat's steady running all year led to a season best time of 24:55 at the MVC meet. He holds a grade point average of 3.125 and majors in Electrical Engineering.
Baker posted his second best time of the season (25:26) to help SIU to its best conference finish since 1998. The Marion, Ill. native majors in Education and has a grade point average of 3.431.
Eligiblity for the scholar-athlete team requires one to be at least a sophomore in standing and have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (4.00 scale). The top 10 finishers at the league championship who meet the criteria earn first-team honors.
