Charleston, Ill. - Southern Illinois track and field teams turned in one last performance Friday night before heading into this weekend's Missouri Valley Conference championships. The men's half squad posted eight wins at the Friday Night Special hosted by Eastern Illinois University.
Nyles Stuart led the way by winning both the triple jump (50-6) and long jump (23-6.25). Kellen Allen took first place honors in the high jump clearing 6-9.75.
Marvin Primo turned in his best performance of the season taking the 60m dash (6.90). He also won the 200m (22.08). Senior Jeff Young won the 60m-hurdles (7.96). B.J. Davis was the winner of the 400m (48.73). The 4x400 relay unit of Maurice Moss, Felix Anderson, Davis, and Orane Morgan won in a time of 3:20.04.
Moss was runner-up in the 60m (6.97). Luke Stenberg was fifth (7.04), Kevin Mills, sixth (7.07), Brent Little, seventh (7.08), and Emmanuele Parris, eighth (7.11). Parris was third in the 200m (22.63), and Morgan finished third in the 400m (50.96). Julien Garcia placed fifth in the mile run (4:20.41).
Little was second to Stuart in the long jump (22-10). Chris Cline finished second in the 35lb. weight throw (52-11) and fourth in the shot put (48-8.75).
Women Get In One Last Performance--Five SIU women competed at the Friday Night Special.
Sophomore Venisha Williams placed second in the 20lb. weight throw with a toss of 52-11.5. Katy Ritten was fourth (51-1.5), and Danielle Lawary was fifth (46-6.75). Lawary took second in the shot put (44-8.75), and Ritten was third (42-8.25).
Sheree Ledwell finished seventh in the 800m (2:30.44), and Laura Grafton was 11th in the 400m (1:07.18).
The Salukis will be vying for Missouri Valley Conference titles this weekend in Normal, Ill. Competition begins Friday and will conclude Saturday.
