Prior to joining Southern Illinois, Bolt served as an Assistant Track and Field Coach at Nicholls State University, where he coached and recruited athletes across multiple event groups, including the Sprints, Jumps, Throws, and Combined Events. During his time at Nicholls, his athletes accounted for 20 indoor top-10 marks and 29 outdoor top-10 marks, including multiple school records in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m Relay, Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump. The program also produced a NCAA Division I East Regional qualifier in the men's 200 meters, the first male in school history.
Before beginning his collegiate coaching career, Bolt spent eight years coaching in Washington with the Cascade Striders and Bolt Track and Field Club, where he served as head coach, founder, and president. His athletes achieved success at the state, national, and international levels, including 225 national qualifiers, 15 All-Americans, four national champions, 148 state qualifiers, 66 state finalists, and 11 state champions.
Bolt's coaching experience also includes Lake Washington High School and The Evergreen State College, where he served as an assistant coach for jumps and combined events. At Evergreen State, he coached athletes to school records in the Women's High Jump, Men's Decathlon, and Men's Pole Vault, as well as an NAIA National qualifier in the Women's High Jump.
His athletes have earned numerous additional honors, including Washington state records, high school records, state championships, Nike Outdoor Nationals championships, and a Spanish National medalist.
A native of North Bend, Washington, Bolt earned a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science with a minor in Chemistry from Northern Arizona University. He holds multiple USATF and USTFCCCA certifications, including USATF Level 3 certification in Sprints/Hurdles/Relays, USATF Level 2 certifications in Jumps and Sprints/Hurdles/Relays, USATF Emerging Elite in Jumps and Combined Events, and USTFCCCA specialist certifications in Sprints/Hurdles/Relays and Advanced Hurdles.
