Men's Tennis Gets Its First MVC Win Against Creighton

Carbondale, Ill. - The outcome of today's men's tennis match against Creighton came down to just one matchup - No. 3 doubles. After moving to an off-campus, indoor facility, five SIU teammates grouped together to cheer on the duo of senior Alon Savidor and sophomore Julian Angel Botero. The result was a win, 8-3, over Richard Gonzalez and Evan Kimura that helped the Salukis win their first MVC match of the season, 4-3.
Singles action would be split, with both squads winning three matches. Savidor racked in his 47th career singles match against Tom McCarthy, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0, at No. 2, while senior teammate Gian Carlo Remigio defeated Evan Kimura at the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Tomas Gonzalez cruised to his seventh straight win of the spring season, defeating Richard Gonzalez, 7-6, 6-2.
In doubles, Remigio and junior Peter Bong roared their way to a win against Vince Meens and Eduardo Pignatari, 8-4, giving the Salukis, and the No. 3 doubles team, an opportunity to seal the match. The men's tennis team will return to action when it goes on the road to face Wichita State and SMS on April 12-13.
