Carbondale, Ill. - Junior women's track athlete Noa Beitler was named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District V University Division Women's Track/Cross Country First Team on Thursday, May 29. Beitler's teammate, sophomore Inna Turevsky was named to the Academic All-District Second Team.
To qualify for placement on the team, student-athletes must own a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2, be at least a sophomore, and be either a starter or key reserve for the team. This year's team was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from District V, which include the states of Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario.
Beitler, who boasts a 3.85 GPA, has posted many stellar performances so far this season, such as winning both the 800m and 1500m races at this year's MVC Indoor Championships. She repeated the feat again at the MVC Outdoor Championships, and will try her luck at both events this weekend at the NCAA Mideast Regional.
Turevsky has also pulled in some exciting showings this season, including placing second in the Triple Jump at the MVC Indoor Championships. She holds a 3.89 GPA, and will also participate in this weekend's NCAA Mideast Regional.
Because of her position on the first team, Beitler will now be placed on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Team, which will be announced Thursday, June 19.
