Gray Grabs Eighth Place Tie At NCAA National Meet

Sacramento, Calif. - Senior high jumper Latrice Gray finished tied for eighth at the 2003 NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Gray leapt past her pre-meet ranking of 24th, and finished with a height of 5-10.50.

Gray, a native of Wood Dale, Ill., advanced to the finals as one of thirteen athletes who qualified during the preliminary round from a field of twenty-eight. She was able to automatically qualify for the national meet after placing third at the Mid-east regional meet.

The only high jump participant from the Missouri Valley Conference, Gray finishes a college career that includes two indoor and two outdoor high jump conference championships. This was her second trip to the NCAA national meet. Gray holds the SIU outdoor record with a height of 5-10.75, which is also a tied for the Missouri Valley conference outdoor meet record. She also has the number two all-time spot for indoor with a jump of 5-9.25.

Gray was the only Saluki of the five invited to the national meet to advance to a final. Juniors Noa Beitler and Korto Dunbar, as well as men's team freshmen Felix Anderson and Ray Scotten also qualified. Complete results of the national meet can be found at www.ncaasports.com.
