MVC Names Two Salukis as Field Athletes-of-the-Week

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Venisha Williams and Ray Scotten were named the Missouri Valley Conference Female and Male Field Athletes-of-the-Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.

Williams, a junior from Ferguson, Mo., won the women's weight throw at the Saluki Booster Invite last weekend with a toss of 53-11 3/4. She out-threw her opponents by nearly two feet. It was a season best throw for the Saluki and also a Valley best mark in the weight this season.

Scotten, a sophomore coming off a stellar performance at the National Pole Vault Summit, cleared a victory at the Saluki Booster Invite also with a height of 16-9, winning on a judge's decision in his first attempt. He was just short of moving up a notch in school history from third all-time, but currently holds the best mark in the Valley.

This is the first time either Williams or Scotten have received the honor this season.
