Men's Tennis Kicks Off Spring Season This Weekend

CARBONDALE, Ill - The men's tennis team will begin their spring season with a four-match, three-day road trip this weekend in hopes that a solid fall season and more experienced players can lead to a Missouri Valley Conference championship.
SIU will start it's first road trip on Friday as they head to Louisville, Ky. to square off against the Louisville Cardinals at 1 p.m. The team's next stop will be in Richmond ,Ky. on Saturday, where they will compete in a double header Xavier University at 12 p.m. and Wright State at 4 p.m. The Salukis will wrap up play in Richmond on Sunday at 12 p.m. against Eastern Kentucky.
The Salukis come into the spring season with their confidence building after a well-played fall season where they had a total win-loss mark of 39-32. The Dawgs will look to senior Peter Bong and juniors Alexandru Nomicos, Lukasz Soswa and Julian Angel Botero to lead the team on and off the court. Bong comes into the season playing at the No. 1 singles spot for the third straight year, while Nomicos will be holding down the No. 2 spot. Soswa and Botero should solidify the middle of the line up at the No. 3 and 4 spots, respectively.
After this weekend's matches the team will focus their attention on the MVC Individual Championships which will begin Jan. 30 in Des Moines, IA.
