Bong Takes Fifth at MVC Individual Championships

Des Moines, IA - On the second day of the Missouri Valley Individual Championships senior Peter Bong gave the Salukis their only spark of the day. After losing in the opening round of play on Friday, Bong rebounded to take fifth place in Flight One singles as he knocked off opponents from Creighton and Evansville.
Unfortunalty for the Salukis the rest of the team came up short in semi-final play as junior Alex Nomicos was defeated in Flight Two singles in a close match that went to a tie break in both sets, 7-6 (2), 7-5 (6), and sophomores Bojan Ilievski and Tomas Gonzales both fell at the No. 3 and No. 5 spots, respectively.
In doubles play, Nomicos and junior Julian Angel Botero lost to McClusky and Villa of Drake, 9-8(7), in the semifinals, while Bong and Gonzales were also defeated in the Flight Three semifinal doubles play.
