MURRAY, KY. - Kyle Hosick shot a personal-best 67 in the final round of the Murray State Invitational to win the two-day tournament. Tied for first place after day one, Hosick (71-70-67--208) finished five-under-par on the tournament to win by three strokes. Hosick's 208 is second in SIU history for low 54-hole score.
Southern Illinois University (291-296-283--870) shot the lowest round of the day to move up one spot from day one and finish fourth in the 10-team tournament.
"After yesterday's finish, we were 15 shots out of first place," said head coach Leroy Newton. "The team really picked it up today to finish within three strokes of second place. Everyone had a good solid round."
The Salukis finished three golfers in the top-20 including Hosick, Sean McNemar (72-78-70--220) in 12th place and Roger Welch (74-75-72--221) in a tie for 13th.
Other SIU golfers included Brian Norman (74-76-74--224) who finished in a tie for 23rd and Chad Cooper (78-75-76--229) in 35th. Braxton Weaver (76-81-83--240) also competed individually, finishing 48th.
Host Murray State (290-282-285--857) maintained its first-place position after day one to win by 10 strokes over Morehead State (292-281-294--867). Southeast Missouri State (287-291-291--869) finished one-stroke ahead of SIU, followed by Northern Kentucky (289-292-303--884), finishing fifth.
The Salukis travel to Springfield, Mo., Oct. 18-19 to take on the field at the SMS Fall Invitational hosted by Southwest Missouri State.
