CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's cross country team returns to action Saturday, when it competes at the Memphis Twilight. The Saluki women will start things off with a three-mile run at 8:30 p.m., followed by the men's four-mile trot at 9 p.m.
SIU is coming off a strong showing at the Saluki Open a week ago, where freshman Jessica Ordway posted the fastest 4K time of any female Missouri Valley Conference runner. Her performance earned her the league's athlete of the week honor.
On the men's side, Joe Byrne took first-place honors at SIU's season-opener a week ago.
More than 25 schools, including Southeast Missouri State, Arkansas State and SIU will participate in tomorrow's meet.
Sophomore Brittany Whitelock, who is recovering from an injury, is the only female Saluki not competing. Senior Eli Baker will also sit the weekend out. Baker has been undergoing some intense training and needs one more week to rest up. He will join the Salukis at the EIU Panther Open on Sept. 17.
