Track Teams Finish Regular Season Well at Friday Night Special

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Juniors Emmanuel Daux and Anthony Acklin nearly became provisional qualifiers for the NCAA national championships Friday night at the Friday Night Special, hosted by Eastern Illinois.
The duo finished just a couple hundreths of a second off the qualifying time (7.95) for the 60-meter hurdles. Daux clocked in with at time of 7.97, while Acklin crossed the line in 7.98. Daux took first place in the event and Acklin was third.
In the 400-meters, senior Willie Davis grabbed second place with a time of 49.31. He was followed by junior Mike Rettig (53.44) in 13th place and freshman Brandon Lukes (53.97) in 14th.
Rettig returned to place fifth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:31.51.
Junior Rob Duncan led the way for SIU in the 800-meters, finishing runner-up with a time of 1:58.70. He was followed by senior Orane Morgan (1:59.20) in third and Lukes (2:07.44) in 12th place.
Senior Doron Giat posted a time of 8:43.17 in the 3000-meter run to finish third.
The field events once again saw sophomore pole vaulter Ray Scotten clear 17-06.25 for the fourth time this season. Scotten took the title in the pole vault by more than a foot. Freshman Matt Weishaar was sixth in the weight throw after a toss of 52-06.75.
Sophomore Brent Little was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 23-03.50, followed by freshman Antwon Stapleton in eighth with a jump of 21-06.25. Junior Fred Rule posted a mark of 6-09.75 in the high jump to take second.
On the women's side, senior Korto Dunbar posted a time of 8.64 to take the 60-meter hurdle title. Dunbar returned in the 60-meter dash to place eighth with a time of 7.75, but it was junior Kelsey Toussaint finishing third with a time of 7.62 that helped the Salukis.
Junior Yvonne Cohen was second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.42, follwed by Dunbar in fourth with a mark of 25.75. Freshman Marquita Vines finished seventh in the 400-meters with a time of 59.78.
In the 800-meter run, senior Noa Beitler was fourth in 2:17.64, while junior Sheree Ledwell was eighth with a time of 2:25.36. Freshmen Katie Birn (5th) and Brittany Whitelock (6th) posted times of 11:23.34 and 11:37.89, respectively, in the 3000-meter run.
Junior Katy Ritten took first in then weight throw with a toss of 54-10.75, while senior Danielle Lawary won the shot put with a mark of 48-04.75. Ritten was third in the shot put (46-04.25).
Sherlenia Green took a break from the sprints, posting a second-place finish in the long jump. Green jumped a distance of 18-06.50. Freshman Hilde Roesvik was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 37-01.75. Katie Fesler tied for fourth in the high jump at 5-03.
