ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Katie Jordan's three-run home run in the eighth inning gave SIU a 3-1 win over Bethune-Cookman (2-9) on Sunday at the Triple Crown Invitational. The homer was Jordan's first of the year and left SIU with a 3-2 record to end the tournament.
Alison Thompson (1-1) had a career-high 15 strikeouts without a walk and one unearned run allowed in a complete game two-hitter. The win is her first as a Saluki.
Adie Viefhaus went 2-for-4 and Jordan finished 1-for-3 with the home run and three RBI.
The win was the 150th in head coach Kerri Blaylock's career and leaves her with a 150-74 record after the tournament. Blaylock is the fastest coach in SIU history to reach 150 wins, doing so in 224 games in four-plus years.
The Salukis will play Illinois-Chicago next weekend to open play at the Rebel Classic Tournament at the University of Mississippi beginning on Feb. 14.
