CARBONDALE, Ill. - The men's tennis team (5-4) will host two matches this weekend as they welcome Chicago State Saturday, March 20 and the Flames of Illinois-Chicago on Sunday, March 21.
The Salukis hope to find the same results this weekend as they did in their home opener last weekend, as the Dawgs were able to pick up their fifth victory of the season with a 5-2 win over Murray State. SIU has found their entire lineup contributing to their success this season. In their win over Murray State it was the middle of lineup pulling through for the Salukis as juniors Alexandru Nomicos and Julian Angel Botero, along with sophomore Bojan Ilievski gave the team three big wins at the No. 2-No. 4 spots.
Chicago State comes into SIU for a double header hoping to end a seven-match losing streak. The Cougars have found no luck on the road or at home thus far in the season but look to get things going in the right direction this weekend against the Salukis.
UIC (2-8) comes to Carbondale looking to build on their two-match win streak as the Flames knocked off IUPUI (5-2) and Youngstown State (6-1) in their last two outings. UIC look to a freshmen Artsem Burmistrau to do battle with SIU's ace senior Peter Bong at the No. 1 singles spot while the Flame's Karol Zaruki holds down their No. 2 singles spot.
