CARBONDALE, Ill. - The men's tennis team will wrap up regular season play with two road matches as the Salukis travel first to Des Moines, IA to take on the Bulldogs of DrakeUniversity on April 18 and then will travel to Omaha, NE to battle Creighton on April 19.
The Salukis go into their last two matches hoping to finish out the season on a positive note. SIU has struggled the past few weeks as the Dawgs have dropped their last five matches moving them to .500 on the season with a 9-9 record, but are just 1-5 in Missouri Valley Conference Play.
While it is impossible for SIU to come away with a winning record within the conference they are still capable of finishing out the season with a winning overall record. While the Salukis look to finish the season strong, the Dawgs know they will have to play very good tennis this weekend to come away with two victories.
SIU opens up the weekend with, what looks to be a very tough match, agaisnt the Drake Bulldogs. Drake comes into the weekend on a eight match winning streak and has been unblemished in MVC play as the Bulldogs have posted a 6-0 record in the MVC, along with an impressive 14-5 overall record.
In their last match of the season the Salukis will square off agaisnt Creighton. The Jays have posted similiar numbers as SIU as they are 9-10 (1-6 MVC) on the year. SIU senior Peter Bong will look to take on CU's Tom McCarthy at the No. 1 singles spot while it is SIU junior Lukasz Soswa and sophomore Bojan Ilievski who will play as the Dawg's No. 1 doubles team agaisnt CU's McCarthy and Kevin Otto.
