CARBONDALE, Ill. - In their second match of a three match home stand the Salukis were handed their second consecutive loss by the Redbirds of Illinois State. After losing a tough match to Indiana State yesterday (4-3) the Dawgs continued to struggle in conference play as ISU posted an impressive 7-0 shut out.
Injuries continued to plague the Salukis as two SIU players had to pull out of match play against ISU today. After picking up his 48th career win yesterday senior Peter Bong was forced to quit his match today due to injury. Bong looked as if he was on his way to another victory as he began to cramp up in the middle of his second set at the No. 1 single spot. Bong tried to continue playing after he worked a cramp out of his leg but Bong has to quit as the pain got to bad and in result gave ISU sophomore Kjordje Uskokovic a win at the No. 1 singles spot.
Sophomore Bojan Ilievski also had to post a default as he had to quit due to an injury to his shoulder. Ilievksi battled back in his match at the No. 4 singles spot against Guilermo Gomez of Illinois St. but after two sets Ilievski could not go any longer as he puled out with the score 3-2 in the third set.
Junior Julian Angel Botero, although injured yesterday, was back in action at the No. 3 spot for the Dawgs. While Botero put forth a great effort he could not get past ISU freshmen Chris Cozad as Botero lost in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 3-6).
The Salukis will look to get even in MVC conference play as they welcome Bradley to the SIU Arena Courts tomorrow morning for a 10:00 am match.
