ST. LOUIS, Mo. - After a stellar weekend in the circle, Southern Illinois junior Amy Harre was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Pitcher-of-the-Week by the MVC Office this afternoon. The award is Harre's first this year and the ninth of her career.
Harre, a Nashville, Ill. native, had an amazing week, finishing 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, two complete game shutouts, including a one-hitter and a two-hitter against Indiana State in two starts. Harre had an incredible 23 strikeouts and just one walk in 14 innings. She had consecutive season-highs of 11 and 12 strikeouts and allowed a .065 batting average over the weekend. In the two games, Harre struck out the side three times.
The one-hitter in the series opener was her fourth of the year and the two-hitter in the finale was her fifth of the year. In the one-hitter, a 3-0 SIU win, Harre struck out the first three batters, seven of the first nine hitters and retired 12 straight to open the game. She faced 22 hitters, just one over the minimum, and allowed one runner to reach second base.
In the series finale, a 3-0 SIU win, Harre allowed one runner to reach second and third the entire contest. Her win gave SIU a series sweep, and more importantly, clinched SIU first-ever MVC regular season title. The two shutouts increase her school record to 33. Harre has thrown complete games the last six times she's taken the mound and had not given up a walk her previous four appearances.
