CARBONDALE, Ill. - Following a win in the title game at the Saluki Fall Invitational last weekend, the SIU softball team (3-1) will play its second fall tournament of the season at the Reverse College Exposure Tournament in Kirkwood, Mo. on September 18-19 at the Kirkwood Athletic Association Fields.
The Salukis beat SIU-Edwardsville 2-1 last weekend to win the championship game behind Katie Jordan's two-run, pinch-hit home run. This weekend Southern Illinois will face Division I teams Eastern Illinois, St. Louis and Southeast Missouri State, as well as Division II teams Missouri-Rolla and Truman State.
"We are facing some good competition and want to continue to look at all our players this weekend," SIU head coach Kerri Blaylock said.
SIU, ranked #24 in the final NFCA poll last year, returns 12 of 17 athletes from the 2004 NCAA Tournament team, including postseason honorees Amy Harre, Katie Jordan and Amanda Clifton. The Salukis won a school record 45 games last season (45-17) and finished 3-2 at the NCAA Region VII Tournament.
SIU is coming off of two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and Top 25 rankings the last two years, which are both first-time accomplishments in school history.
