CARBONDALE, ILL. - After two weeks off, the Southern Illinois University men's golf team is ready to get back on the course to compete. The team travels to Chicago, Ill. for the Blue Demon Invitational hosted by DePaul Monday and Tuesday.
Fellow Missouri Valley Conference teams Bradley and Evansville will also compete in the two-day tournament. The Salukis, who took the team championship at last year's invitational, are coming back after a third-place finish at the Harris Invitational hosted by SEMO.
Junior transfer Sean McNemar led the Salukis with a second place finish individually. Co-captains Brian Norman and Kyle Hosick also garnered top ten finishes. Despite breaking several team and individual school records, the team considered the third-place finish a disappointment for this year's experienced group.
"The kids are really ready to play," said coach Leroy Newton."It's a great golf course and a good trip for them. The team thinks that they slipped a little bit at the first tournament so they're ready to defend their title."
