CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois (2-12, 0-5), who stands as the only winless team in the Missouri Valley Conference, will try to snap a six-game losing streak Sunday when it hosts Bradley (9-4, 2-2) at 2:05 p.m.
Coming off two days of rest, visiting BU recently hit 18 straight free throws in the second half to rally from a five-point deficit, and beat Evansville, 68-65, Thursday. The Braves only led for the final one minute and 18 seconds of the game.
Meanwhile, SIU dropped its fifth straight conference loss to second-place Northern Iowa Friday. Despite a remarkable effort off the bench from freshman India Bruster, who registered a double-double 16 points and 13 rebounds, UNI used free throws and three-pointers to oust the Dawgs. In fact, the Panthers shot 15-of-20 at the foul line and 5-of-13 from behind the arc, while the Salukis didn't shoot one free throw or make one three-pointer.
BU is led by Dena Williams' 15.5 points per game. Genny Mueller also pitches in double figures for the Braves with a 13.4 ppg average. The Braves are also scoring 75.2 points a game as a team.
SIU is led by Danette Jones, who scores 14.1 points a game. Jones was held scoreless in 12 minutes against the Panthers. Daphney Desamours, who missed just her second start of the season against UNI, follows with 13.6 ppg. The Dawgs are scoring 53.6 points.
The Salukis lead the overall series against BU, 37-8, but have lost six of their last seven to the Braves. One of SIU's wins last season came in Peoria, when the Dawgs downed the Braves, 78-75, on Jan. 31.
