Ukabam, Rule Named MVC Field Athletes of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Amarachi Ukabam and Freddy Rule were named the Missouri Valley Conference Female and Male Field Athletes of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Ukabam, a junior from Creve Croeur, Mo., won two events at the Saluki Booster Invitational Jan. 21-22. She recorded a toss of 69-00 in the weight throw winning the event, re-breaking her school record, breaking a MVC record by nearly two feet, and automatically qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships. In the shot put, the junior threw 54-01, winning the event for the Salukis.

Rule, a senior from Clarksville, Mo., jumped a personal best 7-00.25 in the high jump, winning the event for SIU at the Saluki Booster. The jump currently ranks him first on the MVC best list this season.

Ukabam receives the award for the second time this season, while this is Rule's first weekly conference honor.
