CARBONDALE, IL. - The Salukis (6-6) will continue play in the Missouri Valley this weekend when they first travel to Springfield, Mo. to square off against the Southwest Missouri State Bears (4-6) on Saturday and then head to Wichita, Kan., to face the Wichita State Shockers (8-7) on Sunday.
SIU heads into this weekend looking for their first MVC win of the year, as they are currently are 0-1 in conference play. The Dawg's match against SMS on Friday, should make for a good battle, as the two teams are fairly evenly match. The Bears have had a season of up and downs thus far, and they are more than capable of putting up a good fight against SIU. SMS is led by Jiri Spousta at the No. 1 singles spot, while Pavel Hanek will be counted on to hold down the No. 2 singles spot. Spousta and Hanek also join forces to make up SMS's No. 1 doubles tandem.
The Salukis will not have much time to rest, as they travel to Wichita State on Saturday for a showdown with the Shockers. The Shockers with an 8-7 record look to be a tough match for SIU, but the Salukis hope senior Alexandru Nomicos can lead the way for the Dawgs, as he will take on WSU's Goran Vujaklija at the No. 1 singles spot, while Sophomore Rodrigo Lama will also have to play a key role for the Salukis as he will take on Carlo Contente at the No. 2 singles spot.
