Gwinup takes share of lead at John Dallio Memorial

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. - Andrew Gwinup shot a 3-under-par 141 to finish the first day of the John Dallio Memorial with a share of the lead while Southern Illinois University currently sits in 11th place going into Tuesday's final round.
Gwinup claimed a share of the lead with Cleveland State's Mike Rutgers after the first round by carding a 4-under-par 68. Gwinup and Rutgers both recorded a 1-over 73 in the second round to tie with Saint Louis University's David Perritt for a share of the 36-hole lead.
Hosted by DePaul University, the John Dallio Memorial is a 54-hole tournament taking place at Prairie Landing Golf Club. The par-72 course plays at 6,968 yards.
The Salukis were tied for fifth after the first round with an 9-over-par 297. SIU struggled in the second round, posting an 18-over 306 for a 36-hole total of 603.
Finishing the day eleven strokes behind Gwinup is senior co-captain Sean McNemar. McNemar, who finished tied for second last week at the Butler Fall Golf Invitational, is tied for 41st with a two-round total 74-78--152.
Mark Schmitz is tied for 45th (77-77--154) while Daniel Tomlin is tied for 52nd (78-78--156).
Roger Welch rounds out the Saluki effort at 73rd. Welch shot 78-85--163 during the first day of play.
The tournament concludes Tuesday morning with 18 holes left to play.
