CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University senior kicker Craig Coffin was named this week's Gateway Conference Special Teams Player-of-the-Week, the league announced Sunday.
A native of Cape Coral, Fla., Coffin broke two school records when he scored 13 points in SIU's 55-3 conference-opening win over Indiana State on Sept. 30. He became both SIU's all-time scoring and field goals leader with his seven PATs and two field goals.
Coffin broke the scoring record at the 1:01 mark of the second quarter. His 43-yard field goal with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter then established the Salukis' new field goal mark.
Coffin, who now has 320 points and 41 field goals in his career, surpassed Tom Koutsos (312 pts., 1999-2003) and Ron Miller (40 FGs, 1983-86).
Additionally, he is the third Saluki to win one of the league's weekly awards this season.
