Men's Golf opens spring season in Mississippi

CARBONDALE, Ill. - After being on break for almost two months, the Southern Illinois University men's golf team returns to action this weekend as the team travels to Philadelphia, Miss. to compete in the Pizza Hut / BellSouth Shootout.
Hosted by Jackson State University, the Pizza Hut / Bellsouth Shootout is a 54-hole tournament set to take place at Dancing Rabbit Golf Course in Philadelphia, Miss. The par-72 course will play at 6,953 yards during the event.
Senior co-captain Sean McNemar has seen success at this tournament as he and junior Andrew Gwinup tied for 10th at the event last year.
Both McNemar and Gwinup shot 2-over-par 74s in the tournament last year.
McNemar currently leads the Salukis with a 72.9 stroke average through 14 rounds played in the fall.
Gwinup is close behind with a 73.5 stroke average through eight rounds played.
McNemar's best fall finish was a tie for second at the season-opening Butler Fall Invitational. Gwinup's is a tie for sixth at the John Dallio Memorial.
SIU's best team finish was a second-place showing at the Butler Fall Invitational.
Action at the Pizza Hut / BellSouth Invitational begins Sun., Feb. 19 with the first 36 holes on a shotgun start. The final 18 holes will be contested Mon., Feb. 20.
