COLUMBUS, Ga. - Though the team currently boasts a 7-1 record, one foe that the Southern Illinois softball team has not been able to tame is the weather. For the third consecutive week, SIU will play an abbreviated tournament schedule because of inclement weather conditions.
The Salukis were originally schedule to play Georgia at 11:30 a.m. CT with bracket play schedule to begin in the afternoon and continue through Sunday.
Because of the weather and field conditions, Saturday's games were originally postponed and eventually cancelled.
The tournament committee met throughout the day Saturday to develop a plan to get the teams back on the field. The committee came up with two different options and a final decision will be made at 6 a.m. CT Sunday morning.
The first option allows for each team to play one game. In this option, SIU would face #12/13 Georgia at 10 a.m. CT on the Stadium field.
The second option allows for each team to play two games. In this option would have SIU taking on Northwestern at 11 a.m. CT on Field 2 with a game to follow at 1 p.m. CT against Georgia on Field 5.
An announcement regarding the final decision on Sunday's games will be posted on www.siusalukis.com as soon as the information is available.
